The best feeling when working with artists is the ability to work in sync. To be able to relate and go within to carve out the best version of that artist. It is not easy to express emotions into sounds. It is not easy to find the right words to say.
When THE COLDER IT GETS was created I was really into atmosphere in the track. One of my favorite examples of that is Sade who with Stewart Mathewmann have created a timeless collection of catalog full of hits with that same factor. Listen to the best of Sade and every track takes you to a different world of hers.
That influence made me make a series of beats that incorporated that same feel. I kept those beats aside and sent them to ALYST. What was amazing is that ALYST has a great gift of listening and understanding how to go with to bring out those words. These days artists are bold and push thru the boxes that people want to put them in. Rappers rap sing in urban music and in country and pop genres also. The off key tones added to melodies added dashed of autotune and its basically the formula for todays music.
ALYST capitalized on understanding this, so when he sent me this track back with the vocals he dropped it was exactly what I wanted to hear. The song is awesome because it speaks about how people make bad choices in love then answer to the price of those actions. The karma. He was able to work his vocals within the color of the beat. I added thick riding bass lines to this track that made you feel like you were in air add some high eq hi-hats to lead the track added some swirls and vocals stabs of flavor and here came THE COLDER IT GETS.
The video was filmed in between a beautiful old school alleyway in downtown jersey city. I found it while eating at the infamous RUSTIC PIZZA which is amazing but thats another convo. The local was perfect because of its texture rock walls and greens. It was one of our quickest shoots and we celebrated eating dinner at Rustic which in all was a win win.
