Everyday I make beats but not every beat is for everyone. I love to work in fluid fashions if something takes to long its not meant to work. When working in creative you always have to keep this in mind. One thing I remember Chris Lighty telling me was “when you are a producer dont be the guy who has one track and holds on to that track forever hoping the big payoff is gonna come in on one shot that is thinking setting you up for a hard failure instead be the guy who sells his works fluidly just keep getting paid and keep creating achieving” that was Gold to me hearing that because I always kept that in mind.
Due to scheduling and the lives the business it is not always easy to get together in the studio. I opt to be efficient and send out ALYST what we call our “HEAT PACKS” which is the beats I make and I highlight the ones I feel as an A&R would be hits.
He then tracks those and from there I select what is and what doesnt work to build on and go forward with. Its all about carving out the diamond. Thats how we roll. Along the lines I get the Kayne inspirations to make beats late nights and create singles that over ride what I sent out in the heat packs.
TELL ME WHY was exactly one of those beats. I made that beat in honestly 15 minutes and when I saved it and blasted it thru the JBL’s I knew it was fire. I went ham to text ALYST forget the heat pack do this next. He did and he came back with the hit it was fire. His writing and connection of emotion has grown so much with each and every track that songs like this came to life fast.
The next week after getting the song done I went to look for locals to film the video and the locals I originally chose became a back burner when I discovered a beautiful park Lincoln park . I have never been there in Jersey City but again being observant while driving to the original shooting locals this came to be as a better option. Add to the factor that it snowed the day before and became a winter wonderland. Honestly one of the coldest video shoots we had to do yet. Totally frozen on the ice but the background was perfect for the tones of the track. ALYST used his persona and we used great new angles to bring out the best of the video.
